Batman Begins Again
We all know the story. A preteen Bruce Wayne walks with his parents from a theater in Gotham. A hoodlum with a gun confronts them. The father attempts to rush the guy, who guns down both of Bruce’s parents. We end the action, which picks up twenty years later. By now, Bruce Wayne is a playboy industrialist. By night, he is The Batman, an identity created to strike fear into the hearts of Gotham’s criminals.
But what kind of path did Bruce Wayne follow that led to Batman?
That is the subject of the Batman Begins movie which premiered in the summer of 2005. It looks at what it takes for a man obsessed with his personal tragedy to become Batman. The journey takes Bruce from the best universities to a monastery in the Himalayans. It was fascinating.
Christian Bayle took over the role of Bruce Wayne. After his turn as the serial killer yuppie in American Psycho, I was interested to see what Mr. Bayle dids with the part. He was good. Bayle has a glibness to his delivery that made the playboy Wayne a real treat to watch.
The production team on Batman Begins had a distinct vision. Producer Larry Franco took this Batman project on a 180-degree from the campfest of the previous dreadful Batman movie. No more silly turns by Mr. Freeze or Poison Ivy. The villains this time around were Ra’s Al Ghul and The Scarecrow. These are serious, solid Batman villains who should go a long way to cutting out the camp factor.
Batman Begins began a new entertaining line of Batmovies.
I’ve also written a little bit about how to create your own adult Batman costumes on another site.
